The
Paddling Pool is a great success! It was opened in June 2009 by Councillor Wendy Agnew, and visiting children
were also treated to a Puppet Show, a Magician and Splasher’s delightful
antics. Many
wee ones wanted no more than a hug from our furry dolphin mascot, older
kids wanted “high 5s” while others just wanted to pose for photos with
him.
The Paddling Pool is a safe, sheltered place to
introduce really young children to the delights of splashing and
paddling in clean, warm sea water – that’s why we’ve restricted entry to
children 7 and under, who can be easily frightened and even put off
being in the water by bigger, older children sharing the warm shallow
water with them. But please let us know what you think – have we got the
age limit right? Contact

It’s been £120,000 well spent, but of course, the
project would never have been completed had it not been for
generosity
of those who donated and bought “bricks” and our anonymous donor who
gave £70,000. We couldn’t have done it without the help of many local
companies, particularly builder George Bisset of Inverbervie, who really
went the extra mile, Leslies of Stonehaven who carpeted the covered
area, Spencers Coatings who donated non-slip paint, and the Balmoral
Group, including Mr Jimmy Milne himself, for the wonderful dolphin
waterspout. Of course many Friends also gave their time, expertise and
labouring to ensure the new Pool could open for the 2009 season.
Support the future work of the Friends by making a
donation.
